When it comes to money, fear can be paralysing. If you want to get ahead, conquering fear is a must.
Alexandria Blaelock, author of Ms Blaelock’s Book of Holistic Personal Finance says “It starts as fear of not having enough this month, and ends as fear of not being enough, and there’s a vast difference between those two points.”
Here are Blaelock’s tips for conquering fear:
- Remember we all need money: You’re no different to the rest of us. We all need to confront our fears before we can move on.
- Think logically about your fear: Can you trace it back to something you saw or heard as a child? Is it still relevant for you today as an adult?
- Reframe your thinking: Consider developing an empowering and positive affirmation about your finances. Or frame it as a Why question and make it an afformation.
- Take stock: Is your financial situation really that bad? Add up all your assets (bank accounts and belongings) and liabilities (debts) to see what’s what.
- Make a plan: Are there accounts you can consolidate to minimise fees? Do you need to pay down debt? Work out some goals (e.g., a trip to the mountains), and start saving towards them
Alexandria’s tips on what for conquering fear will help you understand what’s causing them, and how to manage them.
